COOL TIGER PAINT JOB ON JET FIGHTER
Thanks Chris L. This is a Mirage fighter of the South African Air force stationed at Hoedspruit Air force Base and was used in the Angolan war during the 70's and 80's. We have now rec'd the above e-mail and also two stating that this is an F-4 Phantom. Anyone know for sure? 3-22-02 Yes, that is an F-4C, early model. They were sold to mostly foreign countries as we began using the D thru G models. The few C models used by the USAF were used for Recon birds. Raya - Vietnam Class of '72-'73 Rec'd 5-11-04 From Robert C. Question: Re: Picture #3651 The information that this is an F-4C is wrong. It is a version modifed for the Royal Air Force, and is known in their service as the Phantom II FG.Mk.1 and to the USAF as the F-4K. This version was altered to use Rolls-Royce Spey turbofans, and this required that 20% of the engine bays and aft section be rebuilt. SOURCE: Encyclopedia of World Combat Aircraft. Oh, the Tiger Paint scheme is common in Europe for the bi-annual Tiger Meet among NATO nations.
