DEMOCRAT COMMERCIALS: BUSH CARRIER LANDING
Submitted by Phillip Ellis Jackson, Ph.D. Literary website: www.scifi-jackson.com Today John Kerry used footage of President Bush' carrier landing to attack his Iraq policies. Dean said he wanted to do the same, but was beat to the punch by Kerry. Anyone remember the "principled" position the Democrats took on this issue a few months ago? From the DNC Website (http://www.democrats.org/news/200305090001.html) May 9, 2003: Democrats call on President Bush Not to Use Carrier Landing for Campaign Commercial Washington, DC -- Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman, Terry McAuliffe issued the following statement:
"Considering the expense to the American taxpayer and use of American military men and women as 'extras' for this media stunt, the President should pledge that his landing not appear in any presidential campaign commercials and videos.
"This whole stunt has been misrepresented by the administration and no wonder, as the whole thing is increasingly indefensible. They have wasted taxpayer dollars, misled the public about the facts and wasted the time of the American military. There will be plenty of footage of George Bush walking the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln. This footage should not be included as an 'in kind' campaign contribution by the American taxpayer."
Apparently, like campaign finance reform limitations, principles only matter to Democrats when they think there's nothing in it for themselves. It's okay to use the troops as props to attack Bush, but demeaning to use this same footage to support Bush.
