Office of the Vice President
To: John Hinckley St. Elizabeth's Hospital

December 20, 2000
Dear John:
Tipper and I were very pleased to read in yesterday's paper that you have recovered from your mental illness. I understand they are allowing you to leave the hospital on weekends to visit your family. That is very good news indeed.
Your doctors tell me that you have made a remarkable recovery since your failed attempt to assassinate President Ronald Reagan. Tipper has long been an advocate for those with mental illness. And we know mental illness can be very cruel. We are happy that you are finally getting well.
Sincerely yours, Albert Gore, Jr.
Vice President of the United States
PS: Did you know that George W. Bush is sleeping with Jodie Foster?
