Clinton Disbarred Before High Court
Disgraced ex-President Bill Clinton has been disbarred by the U.S. Supreme Court in a ruling that prevents him from arguing a case before that venue for the rest of his life.
He has 40 days to contest the order.
The high court did not explain its reasons for the disbarment decision, which would still allow Clinton to practice law before lower courts after an Arkansas State Supreme Court ruling to suspend his law license expires in 2006.
In September 1998, U.S. District Judge Susan Webber Wright found Clinton guilty of civil contempt of court after he gave false testimony in the Paula Jones sexual harassment case. Wright fined Clinton $90,000.
In addition to Jones' allegation that Clinton attempted to compel her to perform a sex act while in the workplace, two other women have publicly accused the ex-president of sexual assault and rape.
Clinton has denied he sexually assaulted White House volunteer Kathleen Willey two years after he accosted Jones, but he has never personally responded to Juanita Broaddrick's 1978 rape allegation.
It's not clear what role, if any, the additional sexual assault charges played in the high court's decision to disbar Clinton.
