STRANGE DRIVE IN
Peculiar, Kansas (S. of Kansas City)

The "Strange Drive-In Sign" is not in "Peculiar, Kansas" but, rather, in Peculiar, Missouri. The town is on US 71 and IS just south of Kansas City, Missouri.
Interesting how the town got this name. Back in the early days, the townspeople submitted several names to the US Postal Service and got replies that the name(s) chosen were not acceptable. The last message from the Postal Service told the townsfolk to "pick a peculiar name." They did and the USPS accepted it.
Our granddaughters all either went to or graduated from the Raymore-Peculiar High School (so named as it is the consolidated school for the towns of Raymore and Peculiar, Missouri.
