Mom Gets Three Drunk-Driving Charges Before 10 AM!

AUSTRALIA-- A MOTHER-of-three has escaped a jail term despite being caught drink-driving three times in five hours.
Brisbane Magistrate's Court was told Casey Leigh Miru, 23, was first caught during a random breath test at 5.37am on February 9.
She had been driving on William St in the city when she was pulled over and returned a blood-alcohol reading of 0.152.
Her license was suspended and she was given a notice to face court.
Less than an hour later at 6.25am, the same police were returning to their vehicle when they again saw Miru in her car in William St.
The Geebung mother said she was moving it to prevent it being towed, before the officers tested her and she registered a reading of 0.135. She was charged again, taken to the watchhouse and released at 8.46am.
But her run of outs continued at 9.55am when one of the officers was off duty and his vehicle was overtaken by Miru's car at Newmarket.
Police said she was driving erratically before she was pulled over and recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.082.
She was then taken to the watchhouse where she was kept for the rest of the weekend.
The 23-year-old pleaded guilty yesterday to five charges including driving under the influence of liquor, two counts of driving with an excess blood alcohol concentration, and two counts of driving while suspended.
Police said Miru had shown blatant disregard for the danger she had placed herself and the community in.
But defence lawyer Rosemary Gilbert argued against jail, saying Miru had three young children and she split with her partner last year.
Ms Gilbert said Miru, who is on a sole parent benefit now planned to take her children to New Zealand.
Magistrate Liz Hall handed Miru a $1800 fine and two years' disqualification. Outside court, Miru was asked if she had learned anything from the incident.
"Don't drink and drive, eh," she said.
Police Minister Judy Spence said new laws will be rolled out statewide from July when anyone caught drink-driving more than once in three years will have their car confiscated.
"It would prevent (Miru) because on the second time she was caught, we would've taken her car from her," she said.
Repeat offenders would pay for towing and storage, and cars permanently forfeited would be sold.
