J, L, CR & TJ M. Schwarzenegger Mural Ruled Illegal LOS ANGELES A week after voters elected Arnold Schwarzenegger to replace Gov. Gray Davis, local authorities are recalling the Terminator -- or, at least, his face on a mural. The 100-foot-by-40-foot mural featuring Schwarzenegger, on a building along the Hollywood Freeway, violates rules regulating outdoor advertising in scenic corridors, city officials said. The mural promotes the upcoming DVD release of "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines." The city attorney's office filed misdemeanor criminal charges Thursday against building owner Robert Lusk Davis for allowing the mural to be erected on behalf of Warner Bros. Each count carries a possible six-month jail sentence and a $1,000 fine. Davis got permission in 1995 to paint a dinosaur on the same building, and he said the "Terminator" ad should also be allowed. "We believe we are now, and always have been, properly permitted," he said. The Cahuenga Pass Neighborhood Association complained to building inspectors last weekend, who verified a violation, said Ruben Perez, a code enforcement official in the Department of Building and Safety. "I told the attorney for Warner Bros. it reflects poorly on the governor-elect to be associated with something that is illegal," said Joan Luchs, the association's president. The city ordered that the mural be painted over, but Davis said Thursday that he would seek a court order to protect it.
